As a lighting contracting company, Lightenco (Lighting Enhancement Corporation), we give the same spiel to our clients about the huge advantages of LED lighting with our retrofit solutions.  When we make our elevator pitch to switch over to LED lighting the common response is “well, that may be nice, but we aren’t sure about our budgeting or scheduling or the return on investment”. Though these concerns are valid, and we would be hypocrites if our company didn’t have the same concerns in our investments, here is our approach to overcoming those obstacles.

Budgeting/Financing

With any new project the funding for it needs to be there. With that in mind we offer a FREE lighting audit assessment. This free lighting assessment is exactly how it sounds, it’s us inspecting your lights and coming back with an energy assessment. This will show you how much money & energy you will save if you were making the switch to LED lighting. So, what does this have to do with budgeting? Let us explain, what most people don’t know is that on average the pay back period of installing LED lighting is a year and half to two years! But even though that is amazing, what can you do if you don’t have the budget? Well, at Lightenco we use government incentives that can cover up to 50% of the cost to upgrade to energy efficient lighting.

**For further detail of government incentives: **

In Ontario, Lightenco works with the saveonenergy retrofit program. This program, run by the Independent Electricity Systems Operator (IESO) can offer incentives of up to 50% of your total project cost. Lightenco works on every angle to ensure your incentive is the most you can expect from Ontario or other provincial programs – anywhere in Canada!

Scheduling

A lighting retrofit may seem daunting. You’ll feel a sense of relief with our service because we look after everything from lighting design to installation, and even project financing as mentioned above. We work with commercial, industrial, and multi-residential customers offering Top-Notch Customer Service that allows you to focus on running your business. We’ve retrofitted salons & boutiques, hotels, restaurants, condos, galleries and more. Knowing that saving you time, money and energy is important we schedule to what best fits your time. We work around the clock to find your ideal lighting retrofit solution.

ROI

The return on investment is clear when it comes to how much energy you will be saving if you make the switch to LED lighting. Lighting can account for up to 40% of your hydro bill. As lights get older, the quality and output also deteriorate which can have negative effects with comfort. At Lightenco, we take all this into consideration to provide solutions that will help you save in the long run all while improving light quality at your building. With lighting accounting for considerable portion of your electricity cost, converting to LED lighting can have a major impact on your bottom line. This leads to very fast paybacks and what’s even better is the lamps keep working beyond payback – adding more dollars back in your pocket book.

Let’s compare the switch over

So, if you made it this far you probably want to know a little more info of the different kinds of lighting and why LED is the better solution. Lighting has been around since 1878 which changed the way we see, consume energy and how we light up a room. It’s a short history, starting from candles to incandescent to CFL to now LED. With the lack of information, budgeting, scheduling or ROI mentioned above we know that most businesses are stuck in the past where tons of commercial, multi-res and public buildings still have incandescent lighting which is over a hundred years old! Talk about a round of applause for lasting technology. However, the times have now changed into a better solution – LED lighting.

The break down

So why not choose CFL? It’s less expensive compared to LED and its better energy savings compared to incandescent. Yes, it’s the happy medium between the old and new however, here is the catch; CFL bulbs contain mercury (it’s poisonous), sensitive to cold weather, cause headaches, often flicker and are not dimmable. Now, looking into the details of LED bulbs:

  • Light up immediately, like an incandescent bulb
  • Cause less heat than other bulbs
  • Last up to five times longer than CFLs; can literally last a lifetime
  • No sensitivity to cold temperatures
  • Do not contain mercury
  • Some models can be used with a dimmer switch
  • Available in soft, warm, and bright white hues
